Learn to speak like a pirate while reading and computing!

Posted on Updated on

Fractions and treasure hunts go good together. So why not read the new Texas Bluebonnet Book, “Misty Gordon and the Mystery of the Ghost Pirates” when working on your Envision interactive pirate treasure map on fractions this year. Take a few minutes to teach your students how to speak like pirates at http://www.yarr.org.uk/talk/ (found at the Bluebonnet committee website)! Students love when teachers role play too!

Load your iPods and iPads with “Fractions: Smart Pirates”, at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fractions.-smart-pirate/id486684960?mt=8. It is excellent and provides different levels of challenge. Warning: The music might drive you a bit nuts.

Encourage some of your balanced literacy groups to read one of my favorite ghost story novels, “The Ghost of Fossil Glen” to compare and contrast.
